In this article, we will show you how to create a very basic but impressive logo for free using Photoshop. And I also want to share with you my Photoshop video tutorial, which shows you how to do it step-by-step. So, here we go!

Step 1: Create a New File

First of all, start Photoshop Elements and create a new document using the 300DPI setting.

The biggest tip in creating a logo is, don’t use a transparent background. If you do, the logo will be difficult to work with.

Why is this necessary? By using this mode, you can easily create a composition from layer and open Photoshop just to switch it to the normal mode.

Step 2: Start Drawing the Logo

Start to draw your logo using the Pen Tool(T).

There are 3 ways to create a new layer.

Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + N.

After you start drawing the logo, press Ctrl/Cmd + J to create a new layer.

After you finished drawing, double-click anywhere on the canvas to create a new layer.

Step 3: Add the Text

After you create a new layer, you can start editing the text using the type tool.

I usually start to use the type tool in an N-E direction.

I start my text towards the outside of the image, and then place it inside of the image after finishing.

Step 4: Add the Background

Once you create your text, select the Pen Tool(T) and then click to place your text.

If you create a text in the center of the logo, all of the colors of the background of your logo will be messed up.

You can fix this problem by placing the text towards the outside of the image.

After you create a text, it will be impossible to edit the color of the text if you don’t set the foreground color of the text.

Right-click on the text and go to Select, then click on the Foreground Color.

Then, change the color of the text to the color you need.

We demonstrate electrically tunable semiconductor nanobeams which can operate as phase shifters, photonic filter and photodetector. The Ge nanobeam is fabricated with a finite width defining two coupled photonic modes.
