when it comes to managed c#, vb.net, or any other.net language, reflector can read code and show the il, cil or native machine code, just as it is. the disassembling and decompiling features are not limited to managed code, but work for any compiled source code. it shows the disassembled code in an easy way to understand format, and just as a vs development project.

reflector can run the visual studio command prompt directly from reflector. we can execute or test an executable from reflector after decompiling its assembly. finally, we can view decompiled code under any.net framework 4.5 to 1.0.

at this point, we have to understand that all code is.net code, it is not c/c++ code. if it is c/c++, it is probably compiled into some other executable. when we decompile, it might be converted to vb.net or c# code, we just need to understand the code.

the disassembly window is bound to the source code we are editing. it is limited to the current source file and the current position in the source file. use the go to function to move to other parts of the code. the cursor is the same as in visual studio. use the built-in highlighting to navigate through the code.

the first example above shows how to write a simple function to add two numbers. there are four important steps:

create an assembly that consists of a c# or vb.net source code.
