The TimeTeller application was designed to a small program which lets your computer tell you the date and or time.

So now you think: why would I need such a program? I’ll give you an example: being an amateur astronomer, I think it would sometimes be nice to know the exact time when doing some observation while not having time or hands left to look at my watch.
So will this program help then? Well, not on its own. It will be most useful if you run it automatically, for example with Puac.

This software has the ability to use a « time server », and when asked to provide the time, it will first ask the server if it has this time (you have to have Internet access, see below for why), and if it does, it will give the server’s time instead.
There are servers around the Internet, for example time.google.com or time.windows.com. If you want to use one of these, it must be specified in the program settings.
If the « time server » does not have this time, the time will be calculated with the time from the computer’s clock. If your clock is broken, or you think it is wrong, the program is able to use the Internet for obtaining a more accurate time.
The time can be queried in a variety of ways. First of all, there is the date (on the left), which returns a string of the year, month and date (the « exact date » option is also available, so the time string will be removed).
There is also the time (on the right), which returns a string of hours, minutes and seconds. A string containing AM/PM will be put into brackets. (so « 23.00 » means 23:00).
Other ways to ask for the time can be done via the mouse, as long as you click in the box provided. It will ask you for a specific time, for example « 3.00 », or « 3:00 », or « 19.00 » etc.
It is also possible to ask for the time every few seconds (as long as you keep the mouse inside the box), or every minute, or every hour, or every day, or every month, or every year (or several years at once).
The program also has a control panel where you can set some general settings. Some of these will be described below.
I have used a kind of « configure screen » below, in order to simplify the instructions.
Notes:

The application works on Windows, OS X and Linux.
The user account with which the application was executed must have permission to use the Internet and be able to get a connection to the server when asked.
The user account does not need to be an administrator.
The Internet connection can be established with a « proxy » (or « tunneling ») server, for example the one.

Start with a macro.
Run a macro with a parameter.
Call a macro with a parameter.

These examples are very similar, so i will explain them in one of these ways:
1) Starting a macro with a parameter:
There are several ways to do this. For example this:

You probably don’t want to bother with the macro definition, so it can be done in a more elegant way by giving the function directly, like this:

X(« foo »); // Prints nothing.
}

Note: you have to call X with the parenthesis to make the parameter str be a function instead of a parameter of the main function.
2) Call a macro with a parameter:
You can do this with:
#define X(str) str
#define Y(str) X(str)

int main()
{
Y(« foo »);
}

Because of a possible « feature » in Puac, you can’t do this:
#define X(str) str
#define Y(str) X(str)
#define Z(str) Y(str)

int main()
{
Z(« foo »); // Doesn’t work, it says’str’ was never declared
}

You have to use:
#define Y(str) X(str)
#define Z(str) Y(str)

This is the same as:
#define Z(str) X(str)

3) Run a macro with a parameter:
This is the same as the first example, but without any macro definition:
#define X(str) str

int main()
{
X(« foo »);
}

(This is a similar example to (1) but the macro is defined directly instead of « compiled in »)
Note that in Puac you can add space between the parenthesis. This will make it a parameter of the function.
