DVLOP Jose Villa For The Love Of Film

The my go-to preset for outdoor weddings is Jose Villa, says Chloro. Before I used DVLOP presets, I would apply a 3 stops or 5 stops adjustment, and I would have to expose for the sky (or bounce the image down) and sharpen. DVLOP saves me so much time and frustration by allowing me to just apply it and be done with it!

I have used both the DVLOP preset and the TAP Profile on my clients weddings and the same applies for my own weddings. It is a breeze to setup in photoshop and really is the best bang for buck. The preset is easy to use and it allows you to change settings (like white balance and then it will allow you to adjust some of the colors. If the preset does not allow you to change things, then the person doing the preset needs to understand what they are doing a little more as you do have some control over the settings. With the TAP Profile there is not much for control. I am able to change my white balance (eg. shoot at a Kelvin and then select to adjust to my preference) and then there is very little there for me to change. The point of the profile is to simply get the colors correct and then there is not much for me to do after that. So for me, the TAP profile is the best if you just want to get the colors right. You have very little control with it, so you have to follow the directions and that can be overwhelming at times! The DVLOP Presets are more powerful as you have much more control over the settings and you can change your settings at any time, they allow you to setup your white balance at whatever you feel is the best for that set of images. The Dump and Skip adjustments are also handy. I have used both the DVLOP preset and the TAP Profile for outdoor weddings and I have also done double celebrity weddings. So for me, the DVLOP Presets do what they are supposed to do and the TAP Profile works just fine when youre planning a double celebrity wedding. They both work and will get you the desired results.

i am all about speed, and i always make sure i am shooting in raw whenever possible. but because i was shooting in raw, i didn’t have to worry about any of that stuff. when i opened the files, i could see the color, and i could see how well the colors were balanced. i also wanted to test the ability of dvlop to keep colors accurate even when you are using different film stocks, and it did an amazing job with that, as well.
another really nice thing about dvlop is that it has a built-in histogram. so when you are in the camera and you have the preview mode activated, you can see where the colors are and how they are balanced. this is especially helpful when you are using dual illumination profiles, because you can check which one is working better at different parts of your image. it also helps you when you are using tungsten or artificial lighting. because you are able to see the histogram in real time, you are able to see exactly what areas of the image are going to be too warm or too cool. you can then either add another profile to the image or you can use the white balance button in the menu.
at the end of the day, if you are getting a professional-quality image, you don’t need to worry about white balance or tint. if you are getting a high-quality image, you don’t need to go to photoshop to correct white balance or tint the image. you simply have to select one of dvlops many presets and enjoy your photos.
this is why i love this preset so much. i can take a raw file from a wedding and adjust the white balance and tint, and then i can export it to a jpeg or a tiff and show my clients that i have the ability to create a professional-quality image using a single preset. i am able to show my clients that they don’t need to use photoshop to make their images look professional. i am able to show them that they can get the job done with just one thing.
