for such a brief adventure, the game contains plenty of high-quality animation, and is a lot of fun to play. the levels are a decent size and the platforming is fun and inventive, but it’s far too short to actually be much of a memorable experience. wario world is a fine example of how a retro-style game should be. it’s simple, stylish, and has a sense of charm that makes it enjoyable, but it’s also too short to last more than one complete play through. nevertheless, it’s a great game to play at parties. recommended!

in each world, there are five stages, which are either normal or bonus stages. there are also four bonus stages and two unithorn lairs, which are both boss battles. of course, with the exception of the boss battles, wario world’s stages are a lot like wario world’s levels. the game starts with a stage opening, and the player is teleported to the stage, along with wario. however, unlike wario world’s levels, there is a high probability that the player will get killed or be knocked into the water, since each level is fairly short. at the beginning of each level, wario will be faced with a puzzle, which is relatively simple. however, if the player fails the puzzle, they will be unable to continue the level. once the level is over, wario and wario world’s character are transported back to the title screen.
the game is split into four worlds, which are each four levels long. the first world contains two stages, one normal and one bonus. the second world has three stages, two normal and one bonus. the third world has four stages, two normal and two bonus. the fourth world has one stage, one normal and one bonus. this progression continues on to the fifth world, which also has one stage, one normal and one bonus, after which the game abruptly ends. each world ends with the usual wario world « thanks » screen, which also concludes the game.
the game’s soundtrack is a mixture of japanese and western music. the opening theme is very familiar, but the other songs are strange. the game features the voice of wario world’s narrator, who also narrates the intro. the characters are voiced by takayuki hattori.
