Photoshop Sketch, for instance, has been expanded greatly, as I have mentioned above, and Apple has added a “Sketch Export” feature and several useful Photoshop Actions, including a new “Edge Warp” Action. There are also some improvements through the use of Move and Rotate tools, making reference lines and frame guides available straight after a photo has been imported. Working with the Smart Keyboard is likely to be the main game changer here, though. As the iPad Pro is now equipped with a Touch ID feature, it feels more like a laptop than a tablet device. Nevertheless, I will also say that the loss of control over the virtual keyboard is the only real downside. Even Apple’s recommendations for how to work with it were too strict for me. And knowing all of the occasions when a virtual keyboard would be needed, it should have been made available right out of the box. Thankfully, the design of the Smart Keyboard seems to get a bit better with each version of iOS, and I already like the new Touch ID proximity sensor. It allows for a much faster unlocking process and is also dead easy to set up. Everything feels so natural, it’s almost like using an Apple Watch. Of course, it would still be nice if you could have your dialog boxes in the right place at the bottom and have the keyboard appear on tap, as it used to be the case in iPadOS. As for the Apple Pencil, I am a bit unsure about whether every pro user would be the right user for it, or whether it would also be the right tool for some people. As the iPad Pro has also lost some of its portability, which is a bummer. In the end, though, it feels a bit like a portable version of a digital drafting table. Maybe they also have a laser and you can draw on any surface. The software is responsive and quick, built upon Apple’s ResearchKit and built-in features, which all feel a bit lacking. In the end, but something that is very welcome, is the inclusion of the ProMotion display technology into iPad Pro, which was developed by Apple. You can use this to get closer to the content on a picture or to create a 3D space, which, when opened, can then be “warped” into editing just like on a… well, a 3D photo editing app would do.
